If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve started a Book Club!
Did I really need to add another thing into my life?
Did I want to read and find other like-minded book lovers to talk to about books we’ve read together?
Being a Bookstagrammer and Book Blogger can be a little lonely as I tend to blog about Books AFTER I’ve read them.
This is to protect myself to be honest because I might say I’m reading a book, get 50 pages in and hate it, or even 2 pages in and just not get on with it.
So, I tend to record books on my Goodreads account and then blog about the ones that make an impact on me here, and on Instagram.
Why start a Book Club?
Every major celeb has a Book Club and I wanted to make an inclusive Book Club to discuss books with others in the same time frame.
Not many Book Clubs capture my attention and I’m not saying every book I choose will capture yours, but my Book Club is different.
How Does Bookish Connections Book Club Work?
1. We meet every other month
The one thing that makes me not join Book Clubs is the pressure of reading and discussing one book a month.
It doesn’t take into account illnesses, work pressures, family time, reading pace etc.
Making a Book Club that is inclusive works for me because I have my own circumstances to consider so I can’t always commit to one book a month alongside work, family etc.
2. Books will be accessible
Books are expensive, especially if you buy them new.
While I LOVE new books, I know for me, it’s not always accessible to buy new books every time I want to join a book club.
And I know that cost is prohibitive, especially for friends who live abroad, students, those without access to libraries, and those who have to cut back due to the current pandemic.
So, I will endeavour to make my Book Club picks accessible to as many people as possible, but I can’t guarantee every book will be accessible or in your price point.
That means we include Backlists, Classic, International books and I welcome suggestions for future Book Club Picks.
3. My Book Club, My Picks
Some had suggested having 2 or 3 book titles and then voting for 1 to read, but this is supposed to be fun for me, and running a Book Club is not as easy as it looks so I’m trying to keep it as simple and manageable for myself as possible.
You can suggest future picks, but I cannot guarantee they will be picked for the next book club.
4. We will Discuss the Book
Depending on how many people join the group, I envision a group chat on Instagram for every book and a discussion call every other month to discuss the book.
I LOVE being able to chat with other Book Lovers about the same book and finding new things to take away from the experience.
Our first Bookish Connections Book Club pick will be announced on Instagram, and I will do a review once I’m finished with it.
For those of my dear readers who would like to join, drop me a comment on this picture on Instagram and you will be added to the group chat.
If you’re not on instagram, send me an email on bookishconnections19 @ gmail . com and I’ll send you the link for the video discussion when we decide a format.
I’m so looking forward to hearing what you think and having you join us!
